The analysts also predict that more ads will appear in games on PC and consoles in the near future.
The global PC and console games market is set to grow by 18% in the coming years reaching $110 billion in 2025. That's according to the forecast of the specialists from the analytics firm Newzoo.
A new report from Newzoo reads that the revenues generated from PC and console games are projected to reach to $93 billion this year which is one billion less than revenues generated in 2021. However, the analysts claim that these dynamics will change and the market will grow due to Xbox and PlayStations experiments with subscriptions and live services as well as the release of more free-to-play games with hybrid monetization on both consoles and PCs.
The analytics firm also states that by the end of 2022, there will be roughly 387 million console gamers and 757 million PC gamers who do not spend money on games which is why it believes that more ads will appear in games on PC and consoles in the near future.
According to the analysts, the increasing number of ads will help studios monetize non-paying players as well as open up a new revenue stream for platforms and developers. Both Sony and Microsoft are reportedly already working on such solutions.
"The two main business models on console were pre-paid games, and now free-to-play is becoming more prominent," said Anzu CEO Itamar Benedy in Newzoo's Global Games Market Report. "There are also in-app purchases, although there is a lot of pressure and regulations around loot boxes. The two main business models are being challenged, and advertising can solve some of these challenges."
