PC Version of Diablo Immortal Has the Lowest Metacritic User Score

The user rating of the PC version of Diablo Immortal fell to an all-time low on Metacritic – it now sports 0.2 out of 10 with over 2000 reviews.

Just a few weeks after its release, Diablo Immortal became the lowest-rated game in Metacritic history. The user score of the free-to-play MMO's PC version has fallen dramatically and at the time of writing, it sports 0.2 out of 10 based on over 2000 ratings.

While, certainly, you can find other titles on the aggregator website that have a score below 0.2, the number of their reviews does not even reach one hundred.

An iOS version of Diablo Immortal score is not much better – 0.5 out of 10 over more than 4000 reviews which makes it the worst-rated Blizzard title on Metacritic.

Previously, the website's worst-rated game developed by Blizzard was the re-release of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade. It has a score of 0.5 points out of 10 due to the introduction of microtransactions and a highly criticized faction system.

Diablo Immortal is also widely criticized for its microtransaction system. This includes a recent report claiming that players have to pay over $100,000 to fully upgrade the character. Previously, the game’s director Wyatt Cheng claimed that "in Diablo Immortal, there is no way to acquire or rank up gear using money."

While his words are partly true – players don't have to pay real money to purchase the upgrades directly, they still need to buy loot boxes of the game, Legendary Crests, so that they could get Legendary Gems – the premium currency in Diablo Immortal which can be used to upgrade a character in the post-game.

The negative reception of the game's "pay-to-win" model may be one of the reasons that the title has become the lowest-rating game on Metacritic. However, it should be noted that the reviews on the website might be written by anyone including those who didn't even play the game, and the score may also be influenced by the recent controversial actions of Activision Blizzard.

What, do you think, are the reasons for such low Diablo Immortal scores? Do you think it is the "pay-to-win" model of the game or something else?
