Last month at SIGGRAPH 2025, Pixar presented RenderMan 27, the latest version of the 3D rendering software for VFX and animation. With the release of the beta notes, everyone can now explore RenderMan 27's features, including the powerful XPU rendering system with final-frame rendering support.
Key features in XPU include interactive denoising, checkpointing, deep workflows, compositing capabilities for visual effects, such as mattes, holdouts, support for multi-GPU rendering, and more. For example, with Stylized Looks now running interactively in XPU, brush strokes, outlines, and watercolor lighting appear in real-time as you work, beautifully demonstrated by Dylan Sisson in his vaudeville stage showcase:

As for integrations, RenderMan 27 offers full compatibility with the latest DCC tools. It also provides expanded Solaris support with UI improvements and deeper pipeline integration. Also, RenderMan RIS will support ARM processors natively on macOS in an upcoming dot release, bringing optimized performance for Apple Silicon users.
