PlayStation 5 Will Support 8TB SSD
As well as new accessibility features and audio options.
Sony is rolling out a PS5 beta update, introducing great new features you might have been waiting for.
Something many hardware enthusiasts might like is support for 8TB M.2 SSDs – previously, you could use a 4TB drive but no more. There are some requirements though:
- Interface: PCI-Express Gen4x4 supported M.2 NVMe SSD (Key M).
- Size: 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280, 22110.
- Size including heat-dissipation mechanism: width: up to 25 mm, length: 30/40/60/80/110 mm, thickness: up to 11.25 mm (up to 8.0 mm from above the board, up to 2.45 mm from below the board).
- Sequential read speed: 5,500MB/s or faster is recommended.
- Socket type: Socket 3 (Key M).
Apart from this, the beta offers new accessibility features. You can now add a second controller to one account to help your friend or child operate the console as if you were using a single controller.
There is also an option to turn on haptic feedback effects on the DualSense, DualSense Edge, or PS VR2 Sense controllers.
If high-quality sound is a crucial part of your gaming experience, you'll be happy to learn that PlayStation 5 supports 3D Audio powered by Tempest 3D AudioTech if you have a compatible Dolby Atmos-enabled HDMI device.
Additionally, Sony introduced several nice social features. It updated the party UI, added a share screen preview, and made it easy to join your friend’s game.
