PlayStation, Xbox & Nintendo Are Reportedly Skipping This Year's E3

A recent report suggests that the three major platform holders may not take part in this year's convention.

2023 was expected to be the year of E3's triumphant comeback after a 3-year hiatus since its last appearance at the Los Angeles Convention Center. However, recent reports indicate that some of the major players in the industry won't participate in this year's show.

As reported by IGN, which cites "multiple knowledgeable sources", PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo will be skipping the revitalized E3 convention that will take place from June 13 to June 16. Sources quoted in the report cited "ongoing frustrations" with the ESA, specifically related to how the organizers handled "the E3 brand in the last three years."

This news follows Xbox's announcement last week that it would be returning for its annual showcase event in Los Angeles. At the time, the company shared that the event would be held during the summer, although it didn't provide confirmation of its E3 participation.

If the recent IGN report is to be believed, Sony not participating in this year's E3 may also not be surprising. The company first skipped the event back in 2019 and hasn't been part of it ever since.

Nintendo has consistently had a booth at E3 even after the debut of its "Direct" format but, just like PlayStation, it is still likely to skip the 2023 event, as sources claim.

Speculation that surrounds E3 2023 potentially missing major platform holders is not exactly the desired outcome for the Entertainment Software Association. If confirmed, the absence of these companies could reduce the appeal of attending the convention, even considering that it finally makes a return after a three-year break.
