Another Geoff Keighley's event, The Game Awards, will take place on December 12. This year, the competition broadens the definition of a "game," allowing DLCs and remakes to participate in the nomination Game of the Year. Shadow of the Erdtree, a DLC for 2022 GOTY Elden Ring, was nominated for the award, which caused backlash as the title is not a standalone game, despite the new rules allowing for such nominations.
