PUBG Mobile Players Beware: This Web Shop Scam is After Your Data
A fake PUBG Mobile shop has been spotted in Instagram's ads.
A fraudulent PUBG Mobile shop has recently been spotted promoting itself over on Instagram, trying to scam unsuspecting players and collect their data with fake roulettes and false promises of redeeming season tokens.
Calling itself Krafton Mobile Events, the scam masquerades as Midasbuy, a legitimate service that lets you make in-game purchases using your preferred local payment methods based on your region. Upon visiting its website – linked on their Instagram, if you're curious – you're met with a barely functioning page where 80% of the UI is completely unclickable.
The remaining 20% invites users to spin the roulettes and redeem season tokens with the promise of huge rewards right here and right now. Should you play along, the site pretends to launch a PUBG Mobile app – something that looks absolutely hysterical if you're on desktop – and prompts you to log in using Twitter, Google, or phone/email, with no telling what happens to your data after that.

Although the scam is as obvious as it gets and wouldn't fool even a three-year-old, the fact that it's been running for at least a month and is still allowed to promote itself on Instagram raises questions about the platform's approach to vetting content that they allow to appear in user feeds.
