You can re-experience the iconic first-person shooter on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
id Software and Bethesda, in collaboration with Nightdive Studios, have officially released a remastered version of Quake II, a classic old-school first-person shooter developed by id Software and released back in 1997, which was first revealed to the public when it was rated in Korea back in June.
While the developers prefer to categorize it as an "enhanced version" rather than a remaster, this release brings a slew of improvements akin to a remaster. The enhancements include new content and maps, cross-play, online multiplayer, co-op functionality, bot support, restored AI behaviors, and the original Sonic Mayhem soundtrack.
It also comes with a range of visual upgrades, such as 4K and widescreen resolution support, improved cinematics, dynamic colored lighting, anti-aliasing, depth of field, enhanced models and animations, and more.

Furthermore, the enhanced rendition of Quake II arrives with both expansions from the original game: Mission Pack: The Reckoning and Mission Pack: Ground Zero. This addition introduces more than 30 extra single-player levels and over 20 Deathmatch maps.
Moreover, a fresh expansion titled Call of the Machine has been incorporated, crafted by MachineGames, the developer behind Wolfenstein: The New Colossus. Comprising 28 campaign levels and a new Deathmatch map, the expansion tasks you to "fight across time and space to find the Strogg-Maker, destroy it, and change fate itself."
Additionally, the enhanced version of Quake II encompasses its Nintendo 64 adaptation. Initially released exclusively for the Nintendo 64 by Midway, this beloved iteration is now accessible to all Quake II players, complete with contemporary enhancements.

"As humanity's last hope, it's up to you to stop the wicked Strogg's warpath before it twists mankind into mechanical horrors," reads the official announcement. "The odds are stacked against you on a hostile alien planet teeming with enemy forces, but so long as you have ammo and a pulse, it's not over! Battle hordes of cybernetic creatures in blistering FPS combat, strafing through Quake II's campaign with an iconic arsenal of bullets, rockets, and shells."
