Quixel: Behind the Scans

The Quixel team has released a new video on YouTube talking about how they scanned the assets for the UE5 Demo, Valley of the Ancient.

Quixel has published a new collection "Canyons of Utah" and shared an incredible video on how the assets were created. The team shows how they approach the assets and environment creation process.

The collection contains over 100 assets, including vegetation,  massive rock formations, cliffs, and tiny borders. To achieve the photo-realistic effect the team went to Moab, Utah to make scans of the environment so you could create stunning and detailed projects with these assets.

Quixel Artists have used these assets in the creation of the light world portion of the Unreal Engine 5 Early Access Release demo, Valley of the Ancient

With more than 100 assets artists can deliberately create any desert environments or recreate the Utah desert in their projects. Due to the detailed workflow in scanning and recreating the Utah environment, you may see roughness, attrition, and cracks that are quite specific for ancient stones and surfaces.

As all the collection was created directly in Utah, all the vegetation is scanned with details and represents the indigenous plants of deserted areas of America.

Inside the collection, you'll receive access to the desert's surfaces that can be used to recreate half-destroyed scenes, deserts, or any other almost uninhabited places.

Also, you may download this collection and thousands of other Quixel collections for free with your Unreal Engine account.

The pack includes sky photos for photobashing and matte painting (250 photos, variety of weather, up to 6000x4000px).
