Daniel Martínez Lara plans to release the tool by the end of next week.
Earlier this month, we showcased a fantastic setup by Daniel Martínez Lara, demonstrating the capabilities of Blender 4.3's updated Grease Pencil with Geometry Nodes support, turning 2D into claymation-style 3D in real-time.
This time, he shared a new fanart test to showcase the Clay Pencil tool in action, using a reference from Pedro Alpera, along with an update on its development. Clay Pencil, a Geometry Nodes group that converts Grease Pencil animations into 3D, is ready to be released. Before making it publicly available, the artist plans to create a tutorial to walk users through how it works, ensuring they can fully understand and make the most of the tool's capabilities.
So, by the end of next week or so, we can expect the tutorial to be ready, along with the demo file. Daniel Martínez Lara has also successfully posed parts modeled earlier using Clay Pencil, which unlocks a lot of possibilities for creating more complex characters. This geometry can include blenshapes or even rigged elements, such as fingers:
