Mrinal Soni of Hashbane Interactive shared another fantastic prehistoric creature animation made for the upcoming Instinction game.
In his latest post, Creature Animator Mrinal Soni offered a closer look at dynamic Smilodon walk cycle animation, yet another anatomically accurate prehistoric animal making an appearance in Instinction and known commonly as the saber-toothed tiger. The meticulous detail and clean topology of the animal, combined with the realistic muscle movements, right down to the belly shaking, make it an excellent reference for other artists.
Mrinal Soni's animation software of choice is Maya, and in the original LinkedIn post, Vikas Prajapati is credited as the modeler, while rigging was handled by Vimlesh Kumar, and Unreal Engine 5 shading work was done by Nevil Thummar.
Have a look at another Smilodon video below shared by Vikas Prajapati, who designed this formidable cat from concept and modeling to texturing and fur work, and see his ArtStation post for details:
Earlier, Mrinal also gave a detailed look at Deinonychus' walk cycle animation:
Back in 2022, we spoke to Hashbane Interactive's COO Courtney O'Neill, who discussed the creation of natural environments and dinosaurs for Instinction, told us about the game's core gameplay mechanics, and explained why Unreal Engine 5 was chosen for the title.
