Realistic Viking Model With Mads Mikkelsen's Likeness

The authors utilized Blender, Substance 3D Painter, and Reallusion's AccuRIG to create and animate the character.

3D Generalist Severi Kamppi and 3D Modeler Jyri Kataja have unveiled Viking, a realistic and highly-detailed model of a medieval Scandinavian warrior based on the likeness of Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen.

According to the creators, the project started off as a simple likeness sculpt created by Severi, but was eventually turned into a full-body character animation "when Jyri came on board". The character model itself was sculpted and modeled in Blender, textured with Substance 3D Painter, and rendered with Cycles, with DaVinci Resolve having been used for grading and post-production.

To animate the model, the artists utilized Reallusion's AccuRIG, Blender's Rigify rig, and the BoneDynamics add-on, which was used to add procedural animations. Additionally, the creators used Blender's modifiers and Geometry Nodes.
