Red Bull Builds the Biggest Tetris Game Ever With 2,800 Drones
"Oh, we also make drinks too."
Proving for a gazillionth time they're now an energy drinks producer second, organizers of some of the most mind-blowing feats ever witnessed by mankind first, the Red Bull team has concluded the Grand Final of its Tetris tournament in Dubai, UAE, with a Tetris match unlike anything you, or anyone else for that matter, has ever seen before.
Leveraging a massive fleet of 2,800 drones – 1,400 for each of the Grand Finalists, Fehmi Atalar and Leo Solórzano – the organizers set up an absolutely gargantuan playing field, where drones precisely displayed every fall, rotation, and drop of the Tetriminos, along with the score, the timer, the next Tetrimino to fall, and other details, in real-time. According to the team, this tournament was "the first official live playable Tetris game in the sky," as well as the biggest playable Tetris game of all time.
"Over [my] five years of Tetris experience, this was the best moment, and this event was one of a kind. It's not a thing you can describe in words," commented Atalar, the winner of the tournament. "I managed to play like a machine, and although I could have done things a bit cleaner, I achieved a flawless run and did not miss a single point in any of my matches, so I am very happy."
