Remedy CEO Steps Down Following FBC: Firebreak's Fiasco

Tero Virtala will remain with the company while it is looking for a new CEO.

Less than two weeks after Remedy Entertainment reported a loss of about €16 million in 2025 due to the underperformance of FBC: Firebreak, the company announced that its CEO Tero Virtala, who has led Remedy for the past nine years and oversaw the launches of Control and Alan Wake 2, will be stepping down as part of a mutual agreement with the board of directors.

Remedy

As stated in the official press release, Remedy has appointed its former Chairman of the Board and one of the company's founders, Markus Mäki, as interim CEO, with Henri Österlund, a board member since 2017, becoming the new Chairman.

Although Virtala is no longer the CEO and has been replaced by Mäki for the time being, he won't be leaving Remedy immediately and will remain with the company while it searches for a new director as part of "an agreed transition period to support the handover of CEO duties." Whether Virtala is leaving of his own accord or was asked to step down because of Firebreak's fiasco, as well as what specific duties he will handle during the transition period, remains unclear.

"I want to thank Tero Virtala for his substantial contribution to the management of Remedy since 2016. I personally thank Tero for good cooperation and wish him all the best for the future," Markus Mäki commented.
