One of Remedy's most beloved titles, Control, turns 5 years old this year. With some entertaining and incredibly bizarre narrative ideas and truly innovative gameplay mechanics, Control became a hit the studio hoped for and proved that Remedy had many creative ideas since the first Alan Wake didn't receive commercial success.

However, Alan Wake 2's impressive reception has made it Remedy's central title, meaning that the Control series set in the shared universe will be the one carrying this legacy with the announcement of the upcoming Control 2.

It only makes sense that with things finally turning around for Remedy, it has announced the acquisition of full rights to the Control series from 505 Games, meaning the studio is now in the position to make better long-term decisions for the franchise growth.

With the termination of the publishing agreement, Remedy owns all of the rights to Control, Control 2, and codename Condor, a multiplayer Control spin-off. 505 Games will only remain the publisher of the first Control game until the end of 2024 under the terms of the original agreement. Remedy considers the options of self-publishing or finding a new publishing partner for Condor and Control 2.

The official statement also notes, that in the deal Remedy paid 17 million euros, which "equals the amount that 505 Games has paid for the development of codename Condor and Control 2 to date including a minor premium".

"Having complete ownership over the Control franchise gives us the freedom to decide the best path forward. We will consider our options carefully, knowing that Control is considered an attractive franchise by many partners. Condor and Control 2 have both progressed well in recent months and we expect these projects to reach their next development stages during the first half of 2024. The development of Condor and Control 2 will continue normally when we consider the best publishing, distribution, and financing model for these projects", said Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy.
