Remedy's FBC: Firebreak Loses Over 93% of Its Xbox Players

Coupled with its daily peak of 32 players on Steam, the developer's optimism about the game seems, at best, questionable.

Despite not being outwardly awful like some of the other AAA failures out there, and even improving its recent Steam reviews to Mostly Positive, it appears that Remedy's FBC: Firebreak is bound to go down in history as the studio's most disastrous project, with a recent report revealing that the game's reception on Xbox is pretty much on par with its performance on PC.

Remedy

To add some context, Firebreak launched in mid-June 2025 to mixed reviews and abysmal player numbers on Steam – the only platform with publicly available data. Over time, even the 2,000 gamers who tried the title at launch started to seem like an unreachable goal, with the title now sitting at a 24-hour daily high of just 32 players.

Naturally, fans of the game and the studio began the usual song and dance about how SteamDB numbers don't tell the full story – and to be fair, they're completely right, those stats should only be seen as a general indicator of overall reception, nothing more – with some insisting that the game was performing much better on consoles. However, we now have data from one of those consoles, and it shows that Firebreak's player drop-off is following a similar pattern there as well.

As revealed by TrueAchievements, citing both their own data and Game Trends', FBC: Firebreak has lost 93.6% of its initial Xbox player base and continues to bleed players at a fairly steady rate, with 48.4% dropping the game in just the past two weeks.

Unfortunately, the exact number of players behind those percentages wasn't disclosed, but even those figures are enough to conclude that, regardless of platform, the game's retention is nearly nonexistent – suggesting PlayStation's stats likely aren't much different either. Interestingly, Remedy itself previously claimed that "there is a good number of new players coming in every day on consoles," which, as the report shows, doesn't seem to hold up.

With that in mind, Remedy's optimism about FBC: Firebreak and their ambitious plans to double down on post-launch content and expand the experience with new features comes across as a case of toxic positivity, with the more likely scenario being the game's eventual cancellation just to avoid losing even more money than they already have.
