
Swedish VR developer Resolution Games known for such titles as Angry Birds VR, Demeo, Blaston, and Bait! recently announced it has acquired another Swedish studio, Zenz VR, creators of the zombie shooter HordeZ. The company shared that the move to purchase Zenz VR is a part of Resolution's strategy to take the top spot in the rapidly growing VR gaming industry.
According to Resolution, this acquisition will help the company strengthen the development of several projects that are currently in the works, while Zenz VR's IPs, both existing ones and those that are in development, will not be affected by the deal, and will remain being developed by the studio.
Resolution noted that several Zenz VR team members were absorbed into Resolution Games' AR division. They will focus on the development of immersive experiences for the next-gen AR and mixed reality hardware. Those specialists will include Zenz VR founder Niklas Persson who previously served as a producer and designer on Battlefield 1942. At Resolution Games, he will he lead several upcoming projects for the studio.
In a press release, Resolution Games also shared its financial results for the fiscal year 2021. According to the company, it saw a "nearly 4x growth of B2C revenues" as well as had "3x total game downloads across all platforms for 2021 compared to the previous year."
The company also noted that its current and main project is Ultimechs, a "futuresport" VR game, inspired by Rocket League, where players use rockets and blasters to try to kick the ball into the opponent's goal.
