Rhythm Action Ratatan from Patapon Devs Secured $350K on Kickstarter in One Day
The goal for the campaign was reached in an hour.
It seems like players are hungry for rhythm games, or they just love Patapon so much, because an upcoming adventure Ratatan from the same developers managed to achieve its funding goals and more in record time.
Yesterday, the team led by Hiroyuki Kotani, the designer behind Patapon, started their Kickstarted campaign, aiming to collect $141,000. Less than an hour later, the devs announced they had reached this goal – an amazing achievement, especially considering rhythm games are not everyone's cup of tea (although Hi-Fi Rush definitely attracted more fans to the genre.)
And the numbers keep growing. As I'm writing this, Ratatan has received $347,825 from backers, meaning the next stage of the initiative has just been reached, so expect to see an online mode in the game.
"Ratatan is diving onto the roguelike scene in this combination of rhythm and side-scroller action. Players can move to the groove alone or team up with friends in multiplayer mayhem suitable for up to four players! Engage in huge melee brawls with more than 100 characters duking it out for supremacy. Defeat your enemies by riding the rhythm of Ratatan's catchy, toe-tapping soundtrack in this delightful, heartfelt adventure!"
I hope this crazy success got your attention, so here is what you can expect. Naturally, you should practice your hearing to follow the rhythm, although I'm sure you don't need to be a musician to play this game. You can freely control the Ratatan heroes and use rhythm commands to order your Cobun warriors. You will need a sense of rhythm and strategy "in order to survive long adventures while losing as few Cobun as possible."
The game features adorable creatures and charming music, so lovers of the genre will surely get the best out of Ratatan.
The game will be out on PC, but the developers have plans for current-gen consoles as well if they achieve their next goal, which will happen very soon based on how fast people donate. The campaign ends on September 1 while the game itself is scheduled for April 2025, and if you want to contribute, check it out here.
