Rocksteady, the developer that was hit by layoffs due to the under-performed Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, is actively looking for a new way out. Rumor has it that it is back making a new Batman Game, and Sony is actively looking to secure exclusivity for PS5.
Xbox Era’s Shpeshal Nick disclosured this information when replying to a tweet by The Game Awards, asking fans to name a studio for the next Batman game.
Replying to a fan’s comment wondering if it would be a remaster of the 2013 Arkham Origins, which was developed by WB Games Montreal, or the PS5 version of the Arkham Trilogy, Nick said, “I heard new game,” showing it is going to be a brand new title in the Batman universe.
Despite the Batman: Arkham series won universal critical acclaim and commercial success, Rocksteady opted not to continue with the franchise after releasing Batman: Arkham Knight back in 2015. While they launched Batman: Arkham VR in 2016, their main focus was shifted to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, whose performance let down both the developer and its parent company, Warner Bros. Games.
So far, there has been no official announcement from Rocksteady or any additional information about the upcoming Batman game. If what Nick shared is proven true, it would be great news for fans who have been eagerly anticipating the return of the series for nearly a decade.
