S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2's Xbox Exclusivity Deal Surpassed the Game's Own Development Budget
GSC Game World's head shared an unexpected detail about the Xbox exclusivity deal.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl launched on November 20, 2024, for PC and Xbox as a timed console exclusive, with the PlayStation version following a year later in November 2025. The game features a seamless open world with 20 regions, each so expansive that, according to the developers, many of them could be a separate game.
While the deal was a clear win for GSC Game World, it's much harder to tell whether Xbox's investment paid off. We don't have specific numbers, and thus, we can only speculate about the outcome. Though day-one Game Pass access undercuts full-price sales, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 proved to be a commercial hit, selling a million copies within its first 48 hours, and player numbers have since reached the 6 million mark.
On Steam, reception remains strong: the game holds a "Mostly Positive" rating across 42,000+ reviews. Its all-time concurrent player peak reached about 121,000, according to the SteamDB data:
