Sailor Moon-Inspired Game Level Created in Dark Fantasy Style with UE5

Eugenia Lysa showcased a stunning detailed game level inspired by the beloved anime and manga and the aesthetics of FromSoftware games.

Environment Artist showcased her new project, Twilight of the Moon Kingdom, which is a Sailor Moon-inspired game level created in the dark fantasy style of FromSoftware games.

Eugenia shared that Sailor Moon was "the cherished anime" of her childhood. Apart from the cute aesthetics, the manga's narrative covers "surprisingly mature themes," such as emotional struggles, the burden of leadership, complex morality and forgiveness, and more. The artist aimed to explore that side of the story deeper.

The project is overwhelmingly detailed, with intricate locations and comprehensive lore. The game level features a natural environment with half-destroyed castles and multiple well-developed locations, such as the Silver Millennium, the Princess Serenity Chapel, the Moon Echo, and the Moon Castle. The character is tasked to proceed through the environment and fight a boss.

"It was so fun to model all of the environment props and making sure I follow official "Sailor Moon" manga artwork and at the same time – stick to the dark fantasy pillars for the visuals," the artist shared. "Everything in this environment except for the flora, soil meshes and background buildings has been modeled and assembled in Unreal Engine by me."

Eugenia posted the project on Reddit, but initially, the website moderators suspected that some visual details were AI-generated. However, the project was later restored.
