
Sega Sammy Holdings has released its 2022 integrated report which revealed that the cumulative sales of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise have surpassed 1.5 billion copies. According to the company, this figure includes both physical and digital sales.
In addition, Sega Sammy shared updates on lifetime sales of other video game series, including acquired IPs, in-house developed IPs, and IPs licensed from third-party developers.
For instance, Total War, a series of strategy games developed by Creative Assembly which launched in 2000, has sold over 40.4 million units.
The games in the Persona series, the first of which was released back in 1996, have amassed 15.5 million copies. Sega Sammy also shared that the latest mainline game in the series, Persona 5, has sold more than 7.22 million units, adding that 77% of the sales were coming from overseas (as of March 2022).
The sales of the Football Manager series, which debuted in 2004, have surpassed 25 million copies. Sega's in-house Chain Chronicle franchise has also sold over 25 million units – the first game in the series was released in 2013.
