It appears the scrapped live-service title was set to bring back the Greek setting.
Throughout 2024 and into early 2025, as Sony was canceling its live-service titles left and right – many of them long before release – one of the most notable cancellations was that of a multiplayer God of War game in development at Bluepoint Games, the scrapping of which many saw as a dodged bullet given the live-service model's poor reputation.
While many believed that with this shutdown the project would sink to the bottom of Lethe and never resurface, surprisingly, it did manage to make headlines once again beyond its grave, thanks to a series of screenshots of the game obtained by MP1st.

According to the gallery, available in full over here, the canceled project was set to bring back God of War's Greek setting from the original trilogy, with screenshots showing classical Greek architecture, environments, and smaller assets like pottery. MP1st further states that their sources told them the armory depicted in the shots would have belonged to Hades, which is notable given that the God of the Underworld, Dead, and Spirits was himself killed by Kratos in GoW III.
Additionally, said armory is shown to come in two different variations: the standard version and a "cursed" one, where mysterious red corrosion spreads throughout the environment, suggesting it could have negatively affected players in some way.
While the screenshots – including completed scenes and WIP assets – do look convincing and feature an art style very similar to the modern-era God of War titles, it's important to note that as of this writing, neither Bluepoint nor Sony has confirmed them to be the real deal, leaving a small possibility that the entire gallery could be an elaborate hoax.
With Bluepoint now working on a third-person melee action experience, and some speculating it could be a remake or remaster of the original 2005 God of War, it's possible that at least some of the assets shown by MP1st could be reused there, which seems to be the only way to 100% confirm their legitimacy going forward.
