Looks very realistic.
The Last of Us Season 2 shows a lot of devastating scenes of overgrown city ruins abandoned by people. Despite the backdrops' realism, they were actually created by DNEG, a well-known VFX company that has worked on many famous shows.
DNEG
The studio shared a look at its work on the season, revealing the many layers it created to make the series look appropriately deserted. Buildings, forests, water – DNEG made them all great, but you can see what it had to do in the VFX breakdown.
DNEG
In Season 1, DNEG used SpeedTree, Houdini, and Clarisse for vegetation, so perhaps we have these apps to thank for the beautiful environments this time as well.
DNEG
The studio is also responsible for VFX in Venom: The Last Dance and The Gilded Age, which should help you understand how talented the team is.
