The game is unlikely to be released before 2025.
Despite Microsoft's plans to acquire Activision, the Call of Duty games seem to try to follow the annual release schedule. Although Treyarch’s reportedly postponed CoD release might ruin this tradition, Sledgehammer Games is rumored to be working on its next Call of Duty title.
Insider Tom Henderson claims that the studio was "given until 2025 to complete its next Call of Duty project." There aren't any details about the game yet, but the fact itself seems likely as the journalist mentioned Sledgehammer Games trying to attract more talent:
"According to the studio’s LinkedIn, it's seen over a 21% increase in talent this past year, with a 7% growth in the past six months. In addition, the studio doesn’t seem to be slowing down on hiring either, with over 60 jobs open."
The studio's previous CoD title Vanguard wasn't met as well as had been expected, which puts the team into a precarious position. Let's hope its next game will get a better reaction.
Whatever Microsoft brings to the series, it seems like the Call of Duty franchise has no plans of stopping.
