Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Supports Real-Time Hardware-Accelerated Ray Tracing

The new version is expected in early 2023.

Qualcomm showed off Snapdragon 8's real-time hardware-accelerated ray tracing that comes with Gen 2. The feature is meant to "make mobile games look even more spectacular".

"Ray tracing aims to directly mimic the behavior of light in the real world, bringing life-like lighting effects, shadows, and illumination to your games."

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is the first Snapdragon to support the technology. From the videos provided by Qualcomm, you can see it in action, showcasing accurate reflections on glossy surfaces and realistic rendering of cast shadows.

The Snapdragon team also announced several games that will use the new ray tracing tech, including War Thunder Edge and Justice Mobile.

Ray tracing-based graphics will be available on Snapdragon smartphones in early 2023.
