Sneak Peek at Ghost in the Shell 1-Bit Demake

Something great is coming.

You might not know you need it yet, but a 1-bit demake for Ghost in the Shell will soon grace our screens. Its creator Super Kaylo shared two teasers of the project, and it looks really well-made, especially when you think about how limiting the production of a 1-bit video can be.

I'm sure you've at least heard of Ghost in the Shell, but if not, here is a little summary.

It's a 1995 animated cyberpunk thriller film based on the seinen manga series by Masamune Shirow. The movie is set in 2029 Japan and follows Motoko Kusanagi, a cyborg public security agent, who hunts a hacker known as the Puppet Master.

Demakes are always interesting to me because I think it takes a certain effort to step down instead of up when it comes to graphics. There are many cool examples of such works: fans have made great downgrades of popular games like God of War Ragnarök, Elden Ring, Mass Effect, Bloodborne, Dead Space, Portal, Wolfenstein 3D, and more.

Super Kaylo says the Ghost in the Shell demake is an animation study for them and it's going to be pretty long. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the release date, but I'm looking forward to it, whenever it comes. If you wish to follow the progress and see other works by Kaylo, check out their Instagram.
