Saul Latorre Sebastian, Lead Animator at Sony Pictures Imageworks, has shared reference footage for the opening scene of the recently released animated sports comedy GOAT.
The scene depicts the main character attending a sports match with his mother as a child, and Latorre Sebastian filmed the reference footage with his own mom, capturing genuine emotions of warmth and support. He noted that the sequence is not only the longest shot he has ever worked on, but also one of the most personally meaningful projects in his career.
GOAT, released this February, is a heartwarming animated story set in a world of anthropomorphic animals. A young goat named Will Harris dreams of joining a team that plays roarball, a fierce sport inspired by basketball, and sets out on a challenging journey to make that dream a reality.
The film is directed by Tyree Dillihay and Adam Rosette, with the screenplay written by Aaron Buchsbaum, Teddy Riley, and Nicolas Curcio. The voice cast features Caleb McLaughlin as Will, Gabrielle Union as Jett, and basketball player Stephen Curry as Lenny Williamson.
