Maybe it should look deeper into its portfolio.
FromSoftware, Sony
Every PC player is acutely aware of PlayStation exclusives, especially some cult games that rest on Sony's platform forever, but the company itself doesn't seem to think it has enough.
Sony's CFO Hiroki Totoki said that it is "lacking" in original IPs, at least those it created from scratch.
"Whether it’s for games, films or anime, we don’t have that much IP that we fostered from the beginning," he told Financial Times (via PlayStation Lifestyle). "We’re lacking the early phase (of IP) and that’s an issue for us."
Sony
Totoki thinks Sony has been better at attracting new audiences for existing games but making original content is something it won't grow without.
The message sounds a little strange to fans who have been waiting for ports of popular games. Bloodborne players have made great progress in running it on PC with an emulator, but they had to do it themselves because Sony isn't doing anything with the game (although there have been rumors of a new Bloodborne project.)
As The Gamer pointed out, there are also Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, PaRappa the Rapper, Gravity Rush, and other titles that have been more or less abandoned. Or did Totoki mean games that studios under Sony develop?
Whatever the case, Sony is planning to invest more in original IPs to "cement its transformation from a consumer electronics brand into a global entertainment company" (via WN Hub).
