Sony has been cleaning its portfolio lately, canceling The Last of Us Online, Spider-Man: The Great Web, a Destiny spin-off from Bungie, Concord, and other projects, and Firesprite's Twisted Metal reboot was one of them.
At first allegedly planned to be released together with the Twisted Metal TV series back in 2023, the game never saw the light of day, but we can finally learn something about it from Firesprite's former programmer Hugo Silva.
In his CV, he shared that he'd worked on Project Copper, a third-person vehicular action combat game "based on a classic IP owned by PlayStation developed by Firesprite" – sounds a lot like Twisted Metal. "It had 3rd-person shooter mechanics wrapped with 3rd-person vehicle combat with the objective of being the last one standing" – so, a battle royale.
Silva also shared some screenshots of the game, although blurry due to NDA.

It does look like Twisted Metal, but I suppose it doesn't matter much now, we won't see it anyway, as Sony is seemingly moving steadily toward a live service future.
Earlier, former SIE Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida said that The Last of Us Online was in a playable state when it was shut down because Destiny creator Bungie explained that a live service game needs to be not only shipped but maintained, which would make Naughty Dog distracted from its sci-fi adventure title, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, so the idea was abandoned.
Yoshida emphasized that Sony's studios aren't forced to develop live-service games, they choose the path themselves. If it's true, it shows where the industry is doing, and it doesn't look too bright to me.
