Sony Wants to Patent the Ability to Revisit Specific Game Moments When Streaming

If Sony succeeds, then players will be able to replay their favorite moments anytime.

The latest patent filed by Sony has caught attention for its potential to revolutionize game streaming and replayability. The patent, titled "Content Streaming with Gameplay Launch", proposes a system that would allow players to revisit specific moments or sections in a game without having to replay everything leading up to it. These designated "trigger points of media content" could include boss fights, alternative storylines, quests, load-outs, and more. The patent suggests that these trigger points may be influenced by save points or checkpoints, providing a more interactive user experience.

While the patent offers an exciting prospect for gamers, it's important to know that the filing of a patent does not guarantee that it'll be put into action. The patent was initially submitted in 2019 and published in 2021, meaning that the concept has been in development for some time. The details of the patent can be accessed on the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) website.

Although the ability to replay specific missions or moments is not entirely new, this patent introduces a more refined approach to the concept. It aims to enhance the gaming experience by granting players the freedom to jump into desired sections of a game, bypassing the need to replay substantial portions. While it remains to be seen if and how Sony will implement this patent, it undoubtedly showcases ongoing efforts to innovate and improve the gaming experience.
