The San Mateo-based studio will be shut down on June 2, 2023.
Last week, PixelOpus, a small San Mateo-based game development studio known for such games as Entwined and Concrete Genie, announced that Sony Interactive Entertainment, of which PixelOpus was a part, had decided to shut down the studio.
The decision to shut down PixelOpus was made after a recent review process that evaluated the organization's short and long-term strategic objectives, as stated by Sony PlayStation Studios (via IGN). The statement mentioned that the company regularly assesses its portfolio and studio projects to ensure they align with its objectives. PixelOpus is scheduled to cease operations on June 2, 2023.
It is currently unknown if PixelOpus' staff will be laid off or transferred to other Sony initiatives. Additionally, it is uncertain what will happen to the studio's WiP Unreal Engine 5-powered game for PlayStation 5, which they have been developing in collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation.
