SpeedTree Controller 3.0 For Houdini 21 Released

Introducing tree simulation for break-apart effects, instancing, and Karma support.

Carsten Baars and Arvid Schneider have released a major update to their tool designed to help Houdini artists seamlessly integrate SpeedTree assets into procedural workflows with great control and realism.

SpeedTree Controller 3.0 enhances the core feature set while introducing some new features tailored for modern pipelines, now fully compatible with Houdini 21. Version 3.0 adds animated fractured trees and RBD merging, enabling dynamic break-apart effects that can reassemble or persist realistically within your shots.

There's also one-click setup for USD-based render pipelines, now enhanced with a Karma Uber material node for unified shading across tree components, ideal for efficient lighting and texturing in Karma XPU or CPU renders. The File Cache Controller is included free with the tool as an optional asset, perfect for managing versions of HIP files and caches efficiently.
