Stability AI, the company behind the generative tool Stable Diffusion, released StableCode – its first LLM product for coding. It is "designed to assist programmers with their daily work while also providing a great learning tool for new developers ready to take their skills to the next level" and can autocomplete your code.
There are three versions of the tool: a base model, an instruction model, and a long-context window model.
The base model was trained on a set of programming languages including Python, Go, Java, Javascript, C, markdown, and C++. Stability AI trained the tool on 560B tokens of code. As a result, the instruction model of StableCode can help solve complex programming tasks.
If you want to learn more about coding, the long-context window model is for you. It offers single and multiple-line autocomplete suggestions and can handle a lot of code at once (2-4X more than previously-released open models with a context window of 16,000 tokens) "allowing the user to review or edit the equivalent of up to five average-sized Python files at the same time, making it the ideal learning tool for a beginner who wants to rise to bigger challenges."
Earlier this year, Stability AI acquired ClipDrop developer Init ML, so we expect to see more AI-powered tools from the company in the future.
The code models are already available, so give them a go and tell us if it helps you in your coding endeavors.
