Star Anises In Monster Hunter Wilds Originally Had 4K-Level Textures

Welcome back, FFXIV 1.0.

A Monster Hunter fan known as data_stash, who previously discovered that Seregios' scales are individually animated, has shared another example of the game's extreme attention to detail, though this time, not in a good way.

Before the recent game update, a star anise sitting on a table was apparently using a massive 2048x4096 texture. As part of Capcom's performance fixes, it has since been replaced with a much smaller 64x64 texture.

Well, seems to have taken a full year for developers to notice and fix the star-shaped spice, and it immediately brings to mind the infamous Final Fantasy XIV flowerpot issue, which Yoshi-P once described as one of the original game's biggest performance problems. According to him, those flowerpots cost as much performance as a single player character.

And let's not forget the classics, like Yandere Simulator's infamous 5,000-polygon toothbrush, which bytedozer recently managed to make even worse:
