With each passing week, it's becoming increasingly apparent that more and more game developers are deciding that the ongoing "Denuvo controversy" just isn't worth it, choosing to ditch the infamous DRM system from their games, sometimes even before these games are officially available.
A recent example of this trend comes from Starbreeze Studios, who announced last week that they had removed Denuvo Anti-Tamper from PAYDAY 3, an upcoming FPS heist simulator and a continuation of the well-known PAYDAY franchise.
In a brief statement shared last Friday on Steam, the developers informed the heisters that PAYDAY 3 would no longer have the DRM in place, signaling that Starbreeze and Deep Silver had a change of heart regarding the software just days before the game's release. The exact reason behind the removal, however, was not disclosed.

Earlier this year, multiple AAA game studios also removed Denuvo from their games, including Capcom's Resident Evil Village, id Software's DOOM Eternal, and many others. Moreover, Tekken 8 Game Director Katsuhiro Harada stated that there are currently no plans to introduce Denuvo or any other DRM in the upcoming fighting game.
The removal was warmly welcomed by the community, given that users frequently raise concerns that games featuring Denuvo tend to operate at a slower pace compared to those without it, drawing comparisons between the official versions of games and their hacked counterparts.
In a recent series of tests conducted on various games by YetTea, it was even demonstrated that Denuvo's presence leads to a reduction in frame rates and longer boot times for the games. Interestingly, Irdeto vehemently denies these findings.
However, not all developers deem it necessary to join the trend and ditch the software. Earlier this month, NetherRealm revealed that the soon-to-be-released Mortal Kombat 1 will incorporate Denuvo after all. Some speculate that the DRM will eventually be removed from MK1, much like it was removed from Mortal Kombat 11 several years after the game's release.
