"Screencap this and shame me if I ever violate this oath."
Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone, the creator of the farming sim hit Stardew Valley, has pledged never to charge for DLCs or updates for his games. In a recent post on X/Twitter, he responded to a fan, saying:
This pledge was made in the context of an update on the much-awaited 1.6 update of Stardew Valley, which was released on PC in March 2024 but is yet to make its way to console or mobile platforms. "I have personally been working on the mobile port every day," wrote Barone. "I will announce when there is any meaningful news (e.g., a release date)."
Many comments have praised the developer for his commitment to providing free updates for the game. And quite some players have expressed their willingness for the developer to charge for DLC or additional content.
Stardew Valley
After more than 12 years of developing Stardew Valley, the indie developer is now working on a new project called Haunted Chocolatier. The game, unveiled around three years ago, shares a similar pixelated art style with Stardew Valley and is said to have "a greater focus on combat." ConcernedApe had this to say about the new project:
"The bottom line, is that I won’t rest, or release this game, until I am personally satisfied that it’s very fun and compelling, in every aspect. If it never gets there, I’ll just never release it. But don’t worry, I have 100% faith that I’ll get it there."
