The announcement came as a gift to fans to celebrate the 8th anniversary of the game.

If you're a big fan of Stardew Valley, you may recall that yesterday, on February 26, the game celebrated its 8th anniversary. To make this moment even more special, Eric Barone, who you may know as ConcernedApe, the creator behind this hit farming sim, has announced that the long-awaited patch 1.6 will be released this March.
"It's the 8th anniversary of Stardew Valley. Thank you for all the support over the years! Today I am announcing the PC Release date for the 1.6 update: – March 19th –. Console & Mobile will follow as soon as possible," the developer wrote on Twitter.
As Barone promised earlier, in January 2024, it is actually happening this year, we'll finally see update 1.6 on March 19.
Firstly announced in 2022, the developer didn't plan to go big, but eventually, the patch turned out to be greater than expected. Upcoming features in the update will consist of three additional in-game festivals, a new type of farm, fresh items and crafting recipes, over 100 new lines of dialogue, support for multiplayer with up to eight players on PC, "new late-game content, which expands on each of the skill areas," and various features for modders, as originally intended for this update.
As for now, it seems that with the release of the patch, ConcernedApe can get back to focusing on the next game, called Haunted Chocolatier, the development of which was stopped due to the extensive and time-consuming patch 1.6.
