In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, Hyung-Tae Kim, the Game Director of the upcoming action RPG Stellar Blade, talked about the design of the main character Eve, and why the development team paid a lot of attention to designing the back part of the protagonist. As Kim shares, when you're playing, all you see is the back of the character, so it's crucial to make it look good and pleasant for the player's eyes.
"When it comes to the design, we put special attention on the back of the character because the player is always facing the back of the character when they're playing," the Game Director said to GamesRadar+. "That's what they see the most of, so we thought this was pretty important."
Kim also discussed the way beauty in games and movies is presented, and he thinks that the characters should be depicted as extraordinary and closer to the "ideal", considering the virtual world and entertainment aspect. However, he added that character beauty shouldn't overshadow the setting or the game's narrative.
"Honestly, when I play a game, I would like to see someone who is better-looking than myself. That's what I want. I don't want to see something normal; I want to see something more ideal. I think that is very important in a form of entertainment. This is, after all, entertainment targeted for adults."
Do you agree with Stellar Blade's Game Director? Is it important for you to see beautiful characters in the game?
