Krafton received "some great feedback."
Many survival game fans are eagerly awaiting Subnautica 2, but they will have to suffer without it for a bit longer, as its publisher Krafton announced the delay of the Early Access: the game should be released in 2026.
Apparently, it got "some great feedback" from playtests: "The community was responding well to the environment, creatures, and story, and felt positive about the general direction of the game. It gave us a great indication that we’re swimming in the right direction."
It also revealed that there are some areas Krafton needs to improve. In this extra time, it will add more biomes, more vehicle upgrades, additional tools, expand on the story, and include more creatures.
In a letter to PC Gamer, Krafton said the delay was not caused by contractual obligations to Subnautica 2's developer Unknown Worlds.
"This decision was based solely on our commitment to quality and to delivering the best possible experience for players," a Krafton spokesperson said. "It was not influenced by any contractual or financial considerations. Additionally, the decision had already been under discussion prior to recent leadership changes at the studio."

I just want to remind you that all three Subnautica studio heads, Ted Gill, Charlie Cleveland, and Max McGuire, have recently left Unknown Worlds out of the blue.
In other, happier news, the developers promised no Season Passes, Battle Passes, or subscriptions in the sequel. Let's see if this says so after the delayed launch.
