This release adds multiple new powerful filters, improved USD functionalities, and updated Linux support.
Following the last big update in May, Substance 3D Painter 10.1 significantly expands the texturing process with some powerful filters and improves many third-party components.
Inside the materials section of the Assets window, you can find a new Embroidery filter. Drag and drop it anywhere over your mesh, add any texture or even a font, and you will be able to easily create new fabric details.

Fill Area Color/Mask filters allow you to fill any closed paths or outlines, which is useful for quickly filling 3D paths. Since they are filters, they can also be used for manual brush strokes.
The new FXAA filter can quickly reduce the aliasing, especially on hard edges that can appear after a level or on masks made with the color selection effect. With the new Highpass Filter, you can generate a grayscale texture to use for more advanced effects (like softening, blurring, or sharpening details). The Pixelate filter can simulate a reduction in resolution, which can be useful for stylizing colors and patterns.
There's also a Posterize filter that can help reduce the number of colors in an image to create contrasts in shapes and build stylized effects. The Threshold filter is a quick way to set sharp binary black-and-white masks from a grayscale input, and the Smoothstep filter is another way of doing a level or contrast to refine grayscale information.

When exporting textures from Substance 3D Painter to a USD file, Adobe Standard Material properties are now included for compatibility with supporting applications. Importing a USD file will now bring in its textures, simplifying the workflow between applications. If the USD uses Adobe Standard Material, it will also configure shader settings to ensure viewport results match the source application.
Following the USD update, some behavior changes were needed for the GLTF format to ensure consistency. When importing a GLTF file, Substance 3D Painter will now assume the normal map is in OpenGL format. For GLTF files using DirectX format, a new setting has been added in the new project window, and the normal format can also be overridden in the layer stack.
Additionally, this version of 3D Painter now supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) version 8.6 as the minimum, but should also be compatible with version 9.x.
