Substance 3D Painter Now Supports Illustrator Files & System Fonts

New major release of Adobe Substance 3D Painter features native support for Illustrator files, a new text workflow, and Substance 3D Assets library accessible directly inside 3D Painter.

Substance 3D Painter 10.0 is the latest major release of Adobe's professional texturing software, introducing several important features: a new workflow for working with text, import support for Illustrator files, and the option to browse the Substance 3D Assets library right inside 3D Painter.

Following the support for .svg files, this new version also adds the ability to import .ai Illustrator files. With full drag-and-drop functionality, you can apply your designs to your layer stack or directly to your 3D models with no conversion required. All your artboards remain intact and accessible after import, making it fast and easy to work with multiple designs or variations.

This release also introduces the Text resource, a quite revolutionary and straightforward workflow to work with fonts, allowing you to use them as any kind of resource: Fill projection, brushes, or as input in Substance filters.

Fonts can now be imported directly, browsed in the Assets panel, and dragged and dropped directly onto the surface of a 3D model, with full control over text settings like alignment, line and character spacing, as well as custom font size and resolution, which will remain even if you switch to a different one.

The Substance 3D Assets dock allows one to browse the online library of the same name directly within 3D Painter. Substance 3D Assets contains a huge selection of around 20,000 professionally created ready-to-use materials with dynamic parameters and presets suitable for any type of project, making them a great source of inspiration and a way to kickstart your texturing process.

For technical artists, it's now easier to create tools for managing layer stack properties in bulk with the Python API. Change tiling or projection settings for multiple layers with a single operation, randomizing all the seed values in the different layers of the layer stack all at once, or automating the creation of material variants.
