Take a Walk in a Northern Coniferous Forest with This Amazing UE5 Scene

Bow Qin shared a demo of the Northern Valley environment.

3D Environment Artist Bow Qin, also known as B.O.W., renowned for creating fascinating 3D scenes, unveiled a demo of one of their environments set in a picturesque northern forest, which we shared with you before.

Now you can do more than admire the mesmerizing forest paths, lakes, and mountain views of the Northern Valley scene – you can walk through them and experience the soothing, immersive atmosphere of nature meticulously visualized by the artist. According to Bow Qin, the demo, built in Unreal Engine 5.4, represents a personal project completed before the transition to UE5.7. Future nature-themed works will focus on the engine's new Nanite foliage system. The environment was designed to achieve a balance between overall structure and details.

Apart from UE5, the Northern Valley scene was created using 3ds Max and SpeedTree and represented an experiment to make a valley terrain built with Nanite static meshes. The atmospheric lighting, created with Lumen HWRT, includes directional light and one skylight; moss is generated on the object's surface using SpeedTree. With DLSS super-resolution used instead of the default TSR, the artist achieved a clearer picture and eliminated artifacts from leaves animating in the wind.
