Take-Two Battles Remedy For Using the Letter "R" In Its Logo

Are they trying to trademark... a letter?

In 2023, Remedy Entertainment, the developer behind Max Payne and Alan Wake, made a noteworthy update by changing its official logo for the first time in two decades, replacing the previous logo, which featured a hidden bullet within the letter "R", with an entirely new design. As is customary, the community's response to the updated logo was mixed, with some appreciating the change and others disliking it, deeming the alteration unnecessary.

As it turns out, among the new logo's haters was none other than Rockstar Games' parent company, Take-Two Interactive, who got entangled in a trademark dispute with Remedy almost immediately after the introduction of the new logo, particularly in relation to the developer's use of the letter "R".

According to a recent report shared by Respawn First, Take-Two is currently disputing Remedy's new logos, claiming that there exists a "likelihood of confusion on the part of the public", the assertion that likely stems from the perceived resemblance to Rockstar's logo, which also features the letter "R". The report further revealed that, at the moment, the situation remains unresolved, with both logos still "awaiting examination" in the United States.
