Take-Two head Strauss Zelnick clarified that the company's strong performance forecast for FY2025 does not imply specific game releases but rather represents its unwavering confidence in the long-term lineup.
Take-Two Interactive has recently revealed its financial results providing an update on the sales of Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2, and other titles and revealing that it aims to generate $8 billion in the fiscal year 2025.
In a new interview with GamesIndustry.biz, the company's CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed this statement as well as shared some insights into Take-Two's plans regarding Nintendo support and its stance on mid-generation console upgrades.
With the recent announcement of its goal to generate $8 billion in FY2025 (which starts in April 2024) through the release of "several groundbreaking titles," speculations arose that Take-Two might have hinted at the potential launch of the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 as early as 2024.
Zelnick, however, clarified that Take-Two's report did not imply any specific game releases such as GTA VI when mentioning the anticipated strong performance in fiscal 2025. He explained that the statement reflects the company's overall confidence in the lineup they have been diligently investing in for several years.
"We're not talking about specific titles," Zelnick said. "We believe it's highly achievable. As you know, it's exceedingly rare that we talk about out years. And when we do, it's because we have a high degree of confidence. It's a reflection of a pipeline we've been investing in for years. We're beginning to see that come to fruition in fiscal 24, and then in fiscal 25, we expect to see some great successes."
Elsewhere in the interview, the Take-Two head affirmed that Take-Two remains committed to supporting the Nintendo Switch, even though the planned Nintendo console version of Midnight Suns was canceled.
Additionally, when asked another console question, specifically, about potential upgrades for the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, and how previous mid-generation refreshes like the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro affected Take-Two's business, Zelnick expressed his belief that upgraded versions of the PS5 and Xbox Series are probable. However, he noted that these upgrades would not significantly affect Take-Two's business, similar to how the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X did not have a noticeable impact.
