Take-Two Takes Down Browser Version of GTA: Vice City with DMCA Request
We can't have nice things.
Rockstar
If you miss the great low-poly days of GTA: Vice City, great news: you can play Rockstar's game right in your browser! Or you could, before the studio's parent, Take-Two, sent a DMCA takedown request to the developers, DosZone.
"It has come to our attention that your website is hosting and promoting a browser-based project that uses the name “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City,” displays game artwork, logos, and branding, and provides functionality enabling users to run a modified implementation of the game engine in a web environment," Take-Two's spokesperson said.
"Take-Two has a strict policy opposing any unauthorized modifications, derivative works, emulations, or alternative implementations of its games, as well as any tools or services that enable such use. Your project promotes and facilitates exactly this type of activity and therefore causes direct harm to our client’s rights and interests."
The company asked DosZone to remove Rockstar's content or shut down the site, so now, there is only a link to the developers' Telegram channel where Vice City used to be.
In order to keep everyone safe from further trouble, I'm just going to suggest checking it out if you're interested in seeing the project again.
