Tears of the Kingdom Has the Biggest File Size of Any First-Party Switch Title

Tears of Kingdom will be about 4GB larger than the previous record holder, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The next entry in The Legend of Zelda series, Tears of the Kingdom, will be the biggest game in the franchise in terms of file size.

As confirmed by Nintendo itself on the Nintendo Store listing, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom file size will be a whopping 18.2 GB. This means that the game will be nearly 4 GB bigger than the latest installment in the franchise, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which came in at 14.4 GB and was previously a record holder in regards to file size.

According to the series' fans, Tears of Kingdom will also be the largest first-party game released for the Nintendo Switch, taking into consideration only the base game in its initial release state and not including any updates.

While the 18.2 GB file size may seem like a small amount compared to the games for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, it is still quite large for a Nintendo Switch game.

Earlier, Nintendo confirmed that the game will be affected by a $10 price hike and will be priced at $70. At the same time, however, the company's spokesperson assured fans that there is no plan to raise the price for all Nintendo first-party games and that the company will set costs for its upcoming games "on a case-by-case basis."

Considering the new information about the large file size of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the game's higher price seems more understandable and almost justifies the $70 price tag.
