Tekken 8 Reviews Plummet After Introduction Of Tekken Fight Pass

Players have a love-hate relationship with the game.

Tekken 8, which initially received 'mostly positive' reviews, has seen its reputation tarnished due to this unfavorable monetization strategy.

As we reported earlier, the introduction of the Tekken Fight Pass in the $70 game has not been liked by players, leading to a noticeable drop in the game's Steam score. Despite being generally well-received, recent negative reviews have brought the rating down to 'mixed,' with a disappointing score of just 53%.

Upon examining the reviews chronologically, it's evident how the situation shifted starting from April 2nd, which marks the introduction of the battle pass.

The Battle Pass for Tekken 8, called Tekken Fight Pass, was added to the already existing $30 Season Pass and in-game store. Priced at $6, it stands as an additional cost on top of the base game and the Season Pass. This has led players to accuse the developers, Bandai Namco, of excessive greed.

Game Director Katsuhiro Harada had previously explained why the game would incorporate microtransactions. However, the backlash suggests that the players are not buying it.

Players have expressed their disappointment, emphasizing that the game is enjoyable, but the monetization tactics have significantly detracted from their experience. Player Razca's comment received over 1,000 'helpful' votes:

Bandai Namco went full greed-mode.

As of march 29, approximately 2 months after launch, Bandai decided to add an item shop with purchases being made with real cash and a premium battle pass, all purchased seperately from the already expensive 30$ season pass in a 60$ game, without any pre-launch roadmap warning players about the ways in which the game's going to be monetised.
All of this is being included in a game that's plagued with many other issues that need urgent fixing, like wonky netcode, terrible balance and no real penalties for cheaters/rage quitters.

Scummy doesn't even begin to describe it, I can't recommend a product thats leaning so heavily towards such shady practices, it's a shame, because the core game itself is a lot of fun.

Additionally, amidst the complaints about the game being too expensive, some players have raised concerns about other aspects of the game, such as its balance. They express frustration that these issues have not been addressed, and instead, more costly features have been added.
