Telltale Games, a studio renowned for narrative adventure games like The Expanse, which was recently released, and the upcoming The Wolf Among Us 2, has recently downsized a large number of its employees.

In the distant 2017, in an effort to streamline production, Telltale Games made the decision to downsize its workforce, resulting in approximately 25% of employees receiving pink slips. They said that these unpleasant moves were part of a "comprehensive company restructuring". One year later, in 2018, the company came to lay off people again, which led to 225 people being fired. At that time, the Verge's sources reported that the staff got no severance packages.

It seems that this time the company has come to the same decision, joining the ranks of those who chose to downsize its staff. Jonah Huang, a former Cinematic Artist at Telltale Games, recently shared the news on Twitter, stating that the studio discreetly terminated "most" of the team in early September.

Huang also said that the team assigned to The Wolf Among Us 2 was already quite small. The artist mentioned that those who were laid off had agreed not to harm Telltale's business and are currently bound by non-disclosure agreements that prevent them from discussing the current status of the upcoming game.

Telltale Games confirmed the layoffs in a statement provided to GamesBeat.

"Due to current market conditions, we regrettably had to let some of our Telltale team go recently. We did not take this action lightly, and our commitment to storytelling and finding new ways to do so remains the same. We are grateful to everyone for their dedication along this journey, and we are working to support everyone impacted. All projects currently in development are still in production, and we have no further updates at this time," stated the company.

Telltale Games has not provided further details regarding the number of employees impacted by the layoffs or the compensation they will receive. Although the company assures that all projects are still progressing, the potential impact of these layoffs on the studio's release schedule remains uncertain.
