Rebel Wolves, a game studio comprised of former CD Projekt developers and led by The Witcher 3 Game Director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, has finally shared an official teaser trailer for The Blood of Dawnwalker, the team's long-awaited single-player dark fantasy action-RPG, providing a glimpse at the title's early gameplay and showing the pivotal moment that sets the game's main story in motion.
Set in a plague-ridden, war-torn 14th-century Europe, The Blood of Dawnwalker puts you in the shoes of Coen, a young man turned into a vampire – referred to as "Dawnwalkers" in the game's universe – who has only 30 days and nights to save his loved ones, forcing players to manage their time wisely similar to the original Fallout.
In terms of gameplay, the title seems to draw inspiration from Infamous, giving players two distinct combat approaches: preserving Coen's humanity or fully embracing his vampiric powers. Regardless of the path chosen, the player must remember that vampirism isn't just about having cool-looking eyes and comes with its own set of challenges, requiring you to manage hunger to avoid accidentally attacking important characters. Whether you fight for humanity, embrace cursed powers, or combine the best of both, your choices will influence not only the gameplay but also the story, according to the developers.
"Bloody conflicts sweep the lands, and the Black Death comes for the survivors. In the wake of the disasters claiming thousands of lives, the decimated human population struggles for survival. It's a moment of weakness – and that's all they needed," reads the game's description. "They walk out of the shadows and claim what they've been denied for centuries: freedom, and power that comes with it. Other creatures of the night follow their lead. Legends turn into reality, and history as we know it will never be the same."
Described as "the first chapter of Rebel Wolves' brand new role-playing saga," The Blood of Dawnwalker is powered by Unreal Engine 5 and is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Bandai Namco, with whom the studio partnered up last year, will serve as the game's publisher.
Besides Tomaszkiewicz, the development team also includes other key talents behind The Witcher 3, such as Senior Writer Jakub Szamalek, Lead Quest Designer Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, and Art Director Bartłomiej Gaweł, along with many other former CDPR developers, suggesting that The Blood of Dawnwalker will almost certainly nail the medieval Central/Eastern European setting much like The Witcher did.
